Weekly Movies – Week 14

A Christmas Horror Story (2015) – Horror
A Christmas Horror Story
Three Christmas stories that are being intertwined by a radio host (Played by William Shatner). This one you need to see for yourself otherwise I will spoil a bit too much.

This movie might be a good one if you want to be a bit in the Christmas spirit and you like horror movies. Acting is not very bad and the stories are quite okay, well at least two of them and the third one I think was a bit comedic but certainly not bad. Would I watch this movie again? Maybe in some years around Christmas, I dislike Christmas.

My Score: 4 Stars (4 / 10)

Below (2002) – Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Below (2002)
A submarine and it’s crew have a lot of things going wrong, they are being searched by a German boat on the surface.
They find survivors of a sunken ship on a lifeboat, after they have brought in the 3 survivors bad things start to happen. Do they have a traitor inside or is it a much more creepy problem?

This movie was quite good, good actors, good scenario and the set and special effects are reasonable. Is it the best movie I have ever seen? Not by far, but it was quite good. If you like serious movies with horror and a lot of Mystery this might be a movie for you. If you are looking for gore and B-movie horrors, then seek somewhere else. This might be my highest Rating that I have given on this Blog.

My Score: 6 Stars (6 / 10)

Bleed (2016) – Horror, Thriller
bleed
A young couple expecting a daughter very soon move to the mid south or some hillbilly place and people are being very strange to them. Friends and her Brother with Girlfriend visit them. They decide to do some ghost hunting in the burned out prison. Shit hits the fan, voila.

Original? No not really, Good? Not very Bad, Entertaining? Somewhat.
This movie has a lot of potential but in my opinion they have dropped the ball on several scenes. The story is ok but very standard, there are some “original” ideas.
I dislike the ending a lot because the trend nowadays with Horror Movies is “played out” in the end.
Would I watch it ever again? Not really.

My Score: 3 Stars (3 / 10)

Blood Freak (1972) – Horror, Comedy?
bloodfreak
A biker brings a young girl with car trouble to her house where her sister has a drug party. Her father offers the biker a job, he changes and becomes a drug dealer killing machine.
There is more to it but that would spoil the “fun”.

Holy Moly, even for a B-movie from the 70’s this is crap. They use a lot of the same sounds for different scenes. Like women screaming is every time the same scream and they have put it in a loop. Acting? No not really. Special effects? Not so special and certainly not good. This is a complete mess, the only time you should watch this is if you like “cult” movies, and you have run out of movies.
Message of the movie? Drugs bad, changes you. God good. And kids don’t smoke weed it will be a gateway to ….. yeah whatever.
The movie felt like it would not end even though it is only 80 minutes long. I would not watch this movie again, ever.

My Score: 1 Stars (1 / 10)

From Beyond (2015) – Horror, Short
from-beyond-small
This is a movie adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s From Beyond, a man is worried about his friend who has become estranged from everything. The only thing he does is conducting experiments and the man noticed that his friend was behaving out of character.

It has a very low production value, the actors are not very good. Visual effects are bad, but it is a Lovecraft adaptation and I actually liked it. They have done this as a something they loved and I can see that and that is what makes the Short very nice for what it is. You can go see it for yourself by visiting the link.
From Beyond – H.P. Lovecraft (2015 Adaptation)

My Score: 5 Stars (5 / 10)

They’re Watching (2016) – Comedy, Horror, Thriller, Found Footage
they're watching

A filming crew go back to a location where they have filmed a episode half a year ago. They go to Moldova in a small village, the people are very sperstitious and clearly do not want them there. At a point shit hits the fan, expect an angry mob with pitchforks.

This is quite a fun movie, it is mostly “serious” but has some humor inserted into it, and in my opinion it works very well. I enjoyed this movie somewhat and the end was quite nice. The special effects are not the best, but heck you can’t expect that from lower budget films that want to make a nice film with a story to tell. Acting is pretty ok, of course sometimes I had to cringe but nothing very bad.

My Score: 5 Stars (5 / 10)
