Trail of Reveries Part 2

Internally she curses herself for being so nosy as she runs towards the dead-end. “Am I seeing ghosts or am I really being followed?”. Realizing that she should not have entered that weird store on Cransberg Street. “An open door” she mutters while she ducks into a maintenance room and closes the door. Looking around for something to put in front of the door she realizes how tired she is. “That crate will do fine” she says under her heavy breathing. Now she feels a lot safer her legs become weak and she collapses to the ground. She pulls herself up and rests against a wall. “Maybe I am being paranoid, there might be no one following me.”

30 Minutes ago:
Samantha enters the mystical shop with a heavy feeling in her stomach, she looks around and finds all kind of statues of weird deities. Dream catchers hang almost everywhere nothing else fit. As she comes closer and look at one of the dream catchers she recognizes a weird symbol that she found in the tome that she possesses. She hears someone walking up to her asking “Can I help you miss?” says a small woman with long dark hair with grey strands in it. She seems to have a lot of tattoos and most of them seem to be symbolic or maybe even occult, she wears at least one ring on every finger and the amount of necklaces and bracelets must make it difficult to nod or raise a hand. Samantha turns around with a smile, “Good afternoon, I was send here by an associate of mine with the information that you might be able to help me on a research I am conducting for Beyond.” The woman looks in Samantha her eyes, almost like she is peaking beyond her, she waves her hand and walks towards the counter in the back of the shop. It is difficult reaching it because of the amount of statues and other trinkets, “was that an engraved skull” Samantha thinks while she passes a glass cabinet.

The shop keeper stands behind the counter looking directly in her eyes, “So what is it I can do for you miss?”.  “Miss Kreiger” says Samantha, “I am looking for Professor Varghese, according to his secretary he hasn’t come into the office for three days and the last place she knows he went was here”. The woman again looks warily at her with a look that is almost disapproving, she picks up some papers and starts to straighten them up. The woman looks up again “Professor Varghese is not here, he left the shop twenty minutes after he came in”. “Why did he come here?”, Samantha says. The woman seems to be irritated and bites on her underlip as if she is stressed out. “It is important for me to find Professor Varghese, just point me in the right direction, please”. Looking around very suspicious the woman starts talking; “He was meddling in things he shouldn’t have, some things are not meant to be known by those who seek knowledge without a purpose”. Samantha looks at her confused, “Dreams are very delicate, specially those that balance between fantasy and reality”.

The door opens and a bell rings as a man with a suit and a hat comes in, he looks like he is in the wrong era. The only thing missing is the violin case with a tommy gun in it to finish the picture. Samantha turns around to the woman who seems to be in shock and hisses at her; “I think it is time for you to go”. “This can’t be it? There must be more. Where is the Professor?” The woman ignores her and starts cleaning up around the counter, Samantha realizes that it is no use to push even further and decides to leave. “Thanks for nothing lady”, she says annoyed walking by the stranger. He looks to her and his eyes seem to have an odd effect on Samantha, for a moment she feels dizzy but she can keep on walking and leaves the store.

“What was that about?” she thinks as she walks towards the metro, “That guy was weird, his eyes, something is wrong with them”.
She enters the metro station and suddenly realizes what was wrong with the man, his eyes where normal but his irises where almost charcoal black and it seemed to have stars in them. “That is impossible” Samantha mutters, a sudden feeling of uneasiness sneaks up on her. “Gum, I need gum”, Samantha rummage through her handbag looking for gum. Even though she stopped smoking six years ago, the tendency to light one up comes when she is very stressed or creeped out. The pack of gum falls on the ground as she thrashed through the bag with too much force and hastily. She picks up her gum and while she wants to sit down on a cold steel bench she realizes that the man with the weird eyes is watching her from the entrance of this platform. “That must be coincidence” she thinks, or hopes. The man slowly walks toward her and her fight or flight instinct kicks in, she starts walking away from the seat towards an other exit. Outside the metro station she looks behind her, it seems she is not being followed. After walking with a fast pace she relaxes a bit and slows down, a bit out of breath she looks around and sees a girl with blond hair and a blue dress staring at her. “She must be 8 years old but something is very wrong with the child”. Sweat starts to pour over her back and anxiety takes over her rationality. She fastens her pace again and walks around a corner, looking behind her the kid is gone, disappeared in thin air.

After ten minutes she feels safe again, she bought a coffee and a muffin and walks on to the train station to catch a cab. As she walks by a video games store she sees in the reflection of the window a man with a hat and an old fashioned suit. Coffee splashes in front of her as she drops the cup and she runs into an alley next to the store. “Keep it together Sam, what is happening?”, she looks back and does not see the man anymore but she keeps on running. She exits the alley and walks on with a fast pace to the other side of the street entering an other alley. The sun is slightly covered by clouds, everything is becoming a bit darker and shadows start to appear everywhere. Creeped out she looks around and she sees a familiar shadow, it looks like the shadow of a man with a hat. Finding herself running again she realizes this is a long and dark alley, up in front of her is a dead-end.
