Weekly Movies – Week 17

Ava’s Possessions – Horror, Comedy (2015)

A young woman has a “spirit” possessing her, with the help of a priest she gets rid of it. She must go to AA for ex possessed people. The demon wants to come back, but how will the demon do it?

Overall I liked the movie, the comedy part is not laid on too thick which is a good thing. The special effects are good, acting is not that bad. Neat little movie, would I watch it again? Maybe I would.

My Score: 5 out of 10 stars (5 / 10)

Deadpool – Action, Comedy, Comic (2015)

Movie about Marvel’s comic book character Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth. Nuff said.

This movie is quite true to it’s comic sources, not everything of course that would be impossible to give a 100 minutes movie the history of a character existing for ten or more years. It was funny, sometimes far over the top (which fits in this movie) and Ryan Reynolds did a very good job (Still hope he will not be playing Connor MacLeod in the Highlander reboot). Fun movie, very entertaining. Would I watch this again? For Sure, when I will have a comic book movies evening or something like that.

My Score: 7 out of 10 stars (7 / 10)

Don’t Grow Up (Alone) – Horror, Drama (2015)

A group of troubled teens in a refuge for difficult children or something like that have a blast as no one comes to check on them. After a trip to the towns super market they realize something is very wrong.

Maybe it is not the best movie ever, but it somehow struck a chord with me. The gritty apocalyptic and maybe even surviving aspect is shown in the second half of the movie. The acting is decent and I was surprised by the young cast, some things made no sense whatsoever. Great atmosphere and the music was spot on in some scenes. I would watch this again in a few years and maybe even add to my serious collection.

My Score: 5 out of 10 stars (5 / 10)

Flight 7500 – Horror, Mystery (2014)

A man dies with a strange box under his seat while on Flight 7500, strange things begin to happen. The Body disappears, weird sounds, weird feelings. What is going on?

So people seem to think if you make one good movie they should throw money at it to make another good movie. What I mean with that is that this movie has been made by the original creator of Ringu and the Ring. This one is ok, sometimes I think the actors overact, sometimes the music is out of place. The story is very meager, and of course it has a Japanese mystery around it. Special effects can be ok and sometimes it is utter crap, specially the last scene. I would not watch this movie again, it was a bit boring to be honest.

My Score: 3 out of 10 stars (3 / 10)

Holidays – Horror, Comedy (2016)

Anthology with holiday themed segments, these segments are a form of tribute to the old horror movies. There are eight segments, some are good some are less good.

I love anthology movies, don’t know why but it is something I enjoy watching. Acting is decent overall but one segment is better then others. Fathers Day is quite creepy, do keep in mind it is a comedy as well so there are weird comedic parts in some of the segments. Can’t say too much about it because I do not want to spoil it all. Would I watch it again? Probably after a while.

My Score: 5 out of 10 stars (5 / 10)

Let us Prey – Horror, Drama (2015)

Several people end up in the local police stations cells after committing crimes. A mysterious man walks to the village, as he enters the village he is run over. A police woman starts her first day at the police station but her troubled past seems to be on her mind. She sees the accident happen and arrests the guy who did it, but there is no body , the mysterious man is gone. After  a search they find the man and then it all begins.

A small gem admits all the crap, a very well thought out movie and very mysterious and sometimes vague. This is a good thing for this movie, the acting is superb and the cinematography is outstanding. I really enjoyed this movie, I would watch this over and to be honest I am going to search for this one and add it to my serious collection.

My Score: 7 out of 10 stars (7 / 10)

Luciferous – Horror (2015)

A family is being haunted by something malicious in their own home, slowly they all go insane.

Jesus this one is irritating, a woman who screams all the time, a child that screams all the time and a father who screams half of the time. The movie is crap, the story is just incoherent and the ending is just f******g stupid. The kid is atrocious and irritating, the mother as well. Oh they both are bad actors, the father has a moment or two that seems decent but for most of the movie it is sub par. Please do yourself a favour and do not watch this movie, please………

My Score: 1 out of 10 stars (1 / 10)

Pandemic – Horror (2016)

A virus has struck humanity and most of the world’s population are infected. No zombies but infected with abilities like a normal human. A Doctor of the CDC goes to LA to help with a vaccine, she is sent out to get some people out of a situation and then things begin to happen.

Not very original, they tried with the infected and several stages, in the end it is a bit zombie like. Acting is ok, music is ok, special effects are ok. The whole movie is mediocre, sometimes I find it quite boring. What annoys me a lot is that the DVD/Blu Ray cover has a guy on it that I haven’t seen in the movie. Would I watch it again? Do not think so.

My Score: 3 out of 10 stars (3 / 10)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Sci Fi (2015)

The plot is simple, the new generation (see what I did there?) of star wars characters emerge from the plot. Bad guys vs. Good guys, big thing must be destroyed or be destroyed. That’s it.

Not bad, I found it quite entertaining but not extremely well. It obviously takes advantage of nostalgia, a lot of shiny things on screen and light sabers. Acting is quite good, some scenes are a bit awkward and some are funny, maybe not well placed. At first I was very afraid that there would be a thousand lens flares but thankfully that was not the case. Too many action and too less story. Would I watch it again? Maybe someday, not very soon.

My Score: 5 out of 10 stars (5 / 10)

The Girl in the Photographs – Crime, Horror, Thriller (2015)

A young woman lives in a small town, she works at a grocery store and there she finds pictures of girls that have been killed. A sick and twisted person kills the girls and takes pictures. A famous photographer who is from the small town is jealous of the killer and goes there to get inspiration for his projects.

This story had somewhat potential and I think that they dropped the ball, the first twenty or maybe thirty minutes are quite ok. From the moment the photographer is introduced it becomes somewhat silly. A slow movie with a build up but no real satisfying end. Acting is here and there dodgy but I have seen worse. Would I watch it again? No, not even Wes Craven’s name attached to it can make me watch this one again.

My Score: 3 out of 10 stars (3 / 10)
